Sarah M. Kirby, age 76, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 in Fort Myers, Florida.

Sarah was born on August 15, 1941 in Cadiz, Kentucky to James William “Frank” and Myrtle Ester (Pepper) Joiner. She married Buddy Thomas Kirby on July 3, 1960 in Cadiz, Kentucky.

Surviving are her husband, Buddy; her children, Cynthia (Paul) Crusen of Peoria, IL, Michael (Gretchen) Kirby of Forsyth, IL and Faye Lynn Streitmatter of Brimfield, IL; and six grandchildren, Jeffrey (Joella) Crusen, Andrea (Cole) Shartzer, Matthew Crusen, Luke Kirby, Ashley Streitmatter and Julie Streitmatter. Also surviving are her siblings, Peggy Lamb of Tennessee, Frankie (Barbara) Joiner and Faye Stallons, both of Kentucky; and a cousin whom she was close to, Mae Belle Wyatt, an honorary grandson, Peterson Keithley, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son-in-law, Drew Streitmatter; her brother, Tommy Joiner and one brother-in-law, Jimmy Stallons.

Sarah worked for Bergner’s Department Store for 33 years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church in Peoria. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She loved her grandkids and the things they did more than anything. She was always front row to watch them, from baseball, football, softball, and basketball games to school musicals, choral concerts, and Christmas plays. The things Grandma loved rubbed off on all of her grandkids in return; if you were in the room when Elvis started playing, you knew you’d be up and dancing with her in a matter of seconds. As much as she loved spending the winter months in Florida, she never liked being away from her grandkids for too long. On that same note, she would be the first to tell you that her favorite memories from Florida were having each of her grandkids make a trip to visit her and Granddaddy over spring break.

Services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2pm at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 5pm to 7pm at the funeral home as well as one hour prior to the service on Friday. Rev. Richard Springsteen and Pastor Garth Yess will be officiating. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

Memorials may be made to Northwest Baptist Church or Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, FL.
