Susan Rebecca Struthers, 70, of Owatonna, Minnesota, died Thursday, March 1, 2018, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 7, 1948, in West Bend, Iowa, the daughter of Arnold and Lucile Struthers. At the age of 10, she moved with her family to Adams, Minnesota, where she graduated from high school in 1966. She continued her education at Austin Vo-Tech. On April 1, 1967, Susan started her 47-year career with Federated Insurance in Owatonna. She started as a policy make-up clerk and after 5 ½ years was promoted to supervisor. Susan spent 20 years as a supervisor before assuming the position of administration technical coordinator and later moving onto other various positions.

As the oldest daughter in the family, she helped raise her younger siblings. Though she never had children of her own, she considered her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews as her children. She shared with them her love of sewing, cooking and baking. She also remembered each of them on their birthdays.

In her younger years, Susan enjoyed traveling to Australia, Canada, Hawaii, and attended the 1982 and 1984 World’s Fair. More recently, Susan dedicated her time to searching the Struthers genealogy. Susan also worked the suicide hot line on Saturday nights for a number of years.

She is survived by siblings, George (Linda Cooper) Struthers of Adams, Nancy (Lowell) Williams of Rochester, Minnesota, Dean Struthers of Adams, Joe (Rachel) Struthers of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Merlin Struthers of Faribault, Minnesota, DeWayne Struthers of Owatonna, and Ivan (May) Struthers of Stewartville, Minnesota; six nieces; three nephews; 11 grandnieces; eight grandnephews; and one great-grandniece.

She was preceded in death by parents, Arnold and Lucile; siblings, Andy Struthers and Sue Struthers; and nephew, Todd Struthers.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, April 6, at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date in Adams.
