Alberta Yancey, 51, of the 3100 block of Fairview St., died Oct. 14, 2001, at her home. Born in Portsmouth, she retired in 2001 as a dispatcher for the Chesapeake Police Department after 22 years of service.

She is survived by a daughter, Yvonne Yancey; a son, Richard LaVon Yancey, both of Chesapeake; her mother, Josephine Wilson of Topeka, Kan.; her father, Jessie Richardson of Portsmouth; five sisters; four brothers; maternal grandfather, Joseph Yancey of New York; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a host of relatives, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 2714 Frederick Blvd., Portsmouth, by Evangelist April McCants and Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds Sr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon today where the family will be from 6 to 7 p.m. The body will be taken to the church at noon Friday.
