Irene was postmaster at Walker, Kansas for 30 years. She then moved to Salina, Kansas and worked at the Holiday Inn and Klines Department Store. After her retirement, she moved to Iowa to live with her daughter and husband, Don. She loved playing bingo and spending time with her family. Irene loved Kansas City Royals.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Don) Sander of Richland, Iowa; two grandchildren, Clayton Sander and Renee (Jason) Eberhart; 3 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Agnes Gerstner; her husband, Acquiline Vonfeldt; a daughter, Elizabeth Moore; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Her body will be cremated per her request. A mass in her honor will be read at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, Iowa. A private burial will be at a later date in Walker, Kansas.
