Hays -- Edward Joseph Gerstner, 79, Hays, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1993, at the Hays Medical Center. Mr. Gerstner was born March 28, 1914, at Ellis and was a lifelong resident of the area.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired farmer, house painter, a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, and the Hays American Legion.

His first wife, Germaine Lang, died in 1975.

Survivors include his wife, Rosetta of the home; a son, James of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Janice Walters of Hays and Sheila Dalrymple of Topeka; three stepsons, Terry Palmer of Derby, Dick Palmer of Haysville and Tom Palmer of Wellington; a stepdaughter, Kay Hawk of St. Joseph, Mo.; a brother, Richard of Victoria; a sister, Irene Von Feldt of Salina; seven grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, the Rev. Felix Petrovsky officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church in care of the mortuary. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until the service today at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 22nd and Canterbury, Hays, 67601.
