Violet Louise Moore
DECEMBER 17, 1928 ~ FEBRUARY 1, 2018 (AGE 89)

Violet Louise Moore was called home to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 1, 2018. She passed away at Grandvue Medical Care Facility where she was a member of the Grandvue Family for two years.

Violet Louise Moore was born December 17, 1928 in Central Lake, to Electa (Barnes) and Clarence DeForest. In 1947 she married Harry W. Moore and together they raised four children. They lived in East Jordan until 1966 when they moved to Williamsburg. After the death of her husband, Harry, she moved to East Jordan and then to Grandvue in 2016.

Louise is survived by children, Ginny (Bud) Carey of East Jordan and Ken (Kathy) Moore of Williamsburg who survive as well as daughter-in-law, Lorrie Hauswirth, five grandchildren, Leon (Lisa) Carey, Troy (Kina) Moore, Natalie Terrell, Nathan (Breona) Moore, and Becky (Charles) Pleune, 10 great-grandchildren, sister, Betty Jordan and brother Ziba DeForest and a sister-in-law, Mildred Rebec Harris. Family was very important and cherished by Louise. She instilled in her children a caring and compassionate attitude toward both strangers and friends, alike. Over all the years as a mother and guide for her children, she respected and supported her family and their decisions about life (even if it wasn’t the way she would do). She always made any situation in life a matter of prayer, whether for her children, her family members, or her friends.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis in 2009 and Clifford in 2015, sisters, Goldie Bancroft, Ruby Chisolm Seymour, Sylvia McWatters DeHaan, Florence Mason, Opal Halladay, Pearl Carpenter Martindale, and Ada Peck.

Louise was employed at J.C. Penny in Traverse City for 6 years. She worked in Medical Records at the Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital for 17 years, and following her retirement, worked part-time at the Ben Franklin Store in Traverse City sharing her crocheting and knitting talents, as well as her joyful spirit.

Lousie was a member of the United Missionary Church with almost perfect attendance for over fifty years; she taught Sunday School for many, many years, served many years as Sunday School Superintendent, Women’s Missionary Society President, Little Jewels Leader and volunteered at WLJN Christian Radio in Traverse City, often opened her home to missionaries who were home on furlough from foreign countries, enjoyed old hymns and Southern Gospel music, and was always available to share her baking and cooking skills for funerals and church functions, both at the East Jordan and Bates Missionary Church. A quiet and humble Christian, Louise loved her Bible, daily prayers, and old hymns. But, her main joy in life was serving her family and her God.

She was a talented seamstress, crocheted beautiful doilies and afghans, and for many years made beautiful quilts for an orphanage in Tennessee and missionary families, as well as lap robes which were donated to several nursing homes over the years.

A special thanks goes to the wonderful and caring Grandvue Staff. Over the past few days, staff members (CENA, Nurses, Activities and even Maintenance) stopped by to just give her a hug and warm greeting. Our family will be eternally grateful for their love and compassion for our precious mother and our family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the Lighthouse Missionary Church with Pastor Jim Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services also at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Lighthouse Missionary Church Building Fund.
