Eugenia Isabelle "Jennie", born June 17, 1896, was the youngest child of Thomas Merseal and Isabelle Palmer. She grew up in Fletcher, MO. She had at least four siblings:

- Alouri Merseal, a girl born about 1878; likely died before 1900
- Maggie Lena Merseal Curtis(1880-1947)
- Jessie Merseal Baker (1884-1953)
- Rossi Lester Merseal (1890-1979)

Jennie married John C. Thebeau at the age of 18, on November 25, 1914. They were married by a Catholic priest, J.J. Murphy in Richwoods, MO (Washington County). Her husband, John, was 22 at the time of their marriage. Together, they had four children, all of whom married and had children of their own: Joseph Curtis "Curt", Oscar Glennon, Helen Marie, and Louis "Lou" Thomas.

According to census records John and Jennie lived in Richwoods, Missouri from the time of their marriage through 1940. Although, John's WWI Draft Registration Card says they were living in Fletcher, MO in January 1917. (Richwoods is in Washington County. Fletcher is in Jefferson County, but just inside the border between Jefferson and Washington Counties.) About 1950 they moved from a log cabin into the "new house" that had electricity and running water.

After John died in 1960, Jennie moved to a small house on Amvets Drive in De Soto, MO, just a half block from her daughter, Helen Houston. When her children and grandchildren came to visit, she would greet them with big smile, and say "Give me some sugar," which was her signal that she was ready for a kiss on the lips.

Jennie was a good cook and she made beautiful quilts.

Jennie died on Aug 12, 1989 at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; by her three sisters, Alouri, Maggie, and Jessie (Mrs. Lytle Baker); and by her brother, Rossi L. "Dinks" Merseal. She was also preceded in death by her son, Oscar; and by a grandson, Bruce Thebeau. She was survived by her sons Curt and Lou, and daughter, Helen, and by eight grandchildren, as well as several great-grandchildren.
