Paul Brackenhamer, Jr., 79, Palm Desert, Calif., died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

He was born in Peru, Oct. 26, 1924, to Paul Brackenhamer, Sr., and Grace Parks Brackenhamer. Paul married Mae L. Huddleston, Sept. 6, 1947, in Peru, who survives.

Brackenhamer served in the U.S. Army, 496th Field Artillery Battalion, European Operation, from June 1943 through February 1946. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in Santa Barbara, Calif., for 20 years and for seven years more in Rancho Mirage. He was a member of Portola Country Club and Portola Men's Golf Club, Palm Desert.

Survivors besides his wife include a sister, Ruthann Brackenhamer White, Wabash; and a brother, James Brackenhamer, Largo, Fla.

Private graveside services were held Monday at Desert Memorial Park, Cathedral City, Calif. Private interment was at Desert Memorial Park, with arrangements by Wiefels and Son Funeral Directors, Palm Springs, Calif. The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, Palm Desert, or a charity of your choice.
