Jack Dempsey Hale, 83, of Lafayette, passed away at 6:45 AM on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus. Born on August 9, 1934 in Moulton, AL, he was the son of the late Thomas E. and Myrtle Lucille (Kennedy) Hale. Jack was a graduate of Chalybeate High School and was an outstanding basketball player. He is survived by his wife Gladys E. (Letson) Hale, who he married on December 31, 1950 in Iuka, MS. Mr. Hale worked at TRW/Ross Gear for 42 years. He was a member of UAW Local 2317 and was instrumental in the development of the IFCU in Lafayette. Jack enjoyed training his dogs, fishing, filming family events, playing guitar and was an outstanding bowler. He also loved watching Purdue basketball and football.

In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by two sons; two daughters; one sister; seven grandchildren; and five great-granddaughters.

Jack is preceded in death by his younger brother, Tommy Hale Jr.

Jack will be forever loved and remembered by the many people he touched in his life. He will be deeply missed by all.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Cumberland Pointe Heath Campus for their loving care and compassion to Smiley Jack 

Visiting hours will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Hippensteel Funeral Home, 822 North 9th Street, Lafayette, Indiana. Interment will take place at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Chapel, 1718 West 350 North/Kalberer Road, West Lafayette, with Reverend Ross Terry officiating.
