She enjoyed snow skiing and it was in Yosemite that she met her future husband Marvin who was a ski instructor. Together they had two children, Jan and Jill. She was an excellent homemaker and became interested in real estate. She managed to save up money and buy fixer-uppers and used them as rentals over the years. She owned homes in Manhattan Beach, Rancho Cordova, Los Angeles, Tahoe, Loleta & Eureka over her lifetime. She had a flair for interior decorating as reflected in her rentals.
After her children were grown, she married Lenwood Olson of Loleta, California (no relation to first husband). Soon after they moved to Los Angeles and spent many nights dancing the night away. They both enjoyed finding bargains and antiques at garage and rummage sales and reselling them. During this time, they shared the raising of her granddaughter, Raina, who was her pride and joy. Betty and Lenwood moved back to Eureka in the 1980s and enjoyed looking for bargains and sales. Upon his death in 1996 Betty moved back to Sacramento, California to be with her children and grandchildren and was very lucky to own the home next to them. In 2008, Betty decided to move back to Eureka to avoid the heat of Sacramento and could be seen going to all the local dining spots with her stepdaughter Cindy.
Betty loved life and her family and never took a pill (including an aspirin) until six months before her passing. Betty continued her love of bargain hunting in Eureka and never could pass up a garage sale. She could be seen at Redwood Acres selling her treasures.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen Fitzpatrick, her son Jan and daughter, Jill and is survived by her granddaughter Raina Cyphers (Mel Castanon) Melody Martinez and Silas Martinez. Also surviving her are her stepdaughters, Cindy Olsen Bugenig, Loretta Olsen, great grandchildren Melesia Castanon, Brittany Cyphers, Devin Cyphers, Rudy Martinez and Damon Martinez and great-great grandchildren Beckham Brokenshire and Mateo Martinez. Betty's love of her family was never ending and she will be forever loved and remembered by those of us that were lucky to be part of her life.
Graveside services will be held on March 24th, 2018 at 1:00pm at Oceanview Cemetery in Eureka, California.
