Janice Maxine Steinke, age 73 of Elkhart, passed away March 13, 2018 at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis. Janice was born December 12, 1944 in Jimtown, Indiana to the late Menford and Myrtle (Ganger) Stouder. She graduated from Jimtown High School in 1962. On August 1, 1963, she married Terry Steinke. They celebrated 54 years of marriage.

Terry survives, along with their children Becci (Mike) Mann, David (Lori) Steinke, Jim (Shiela) Steinke, all of Elkhart, Daniel (Kelly) Steinke of South Bend, and Tom (Michelle) Steinke of Middlebury. Surviving as well are 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson and 8 siblings.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Friday, March 23, 2018 at Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Osceola. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 11:00 am funeral service on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Osceola United Methodist Church. Cremation will follow, and interment will be private in Olive Cemetery.

Janice was employed for over 14 years as a group leader at Markley Enterprises in Elkhart. She and her husband Terry recently moved back to Elkhart from Venice, Florida where they were life members of the DAV. Janice was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Marine Corps League Ladies Auxiliary, and the Baugo Fire Ladies Auxiliary. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping with her daughters in law, playing BINGO, and making her famous potato salad for the family.

More than anything, Janice loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren where she took great joy in hosting a “cousins sleepover” at her home for them.

In her memory, donations may be made to the Osceola United Methodist Church where she and Terry attended. To view her online video tribute or leave a condolence for her family, please follow the link above marked "Tribute Page."
