Son of Raymond and Henrietta (Zylstra) Kimbel.
He contracted polio at six months of age and survived multiple surgeries. His family moved to Manton when Don was 5. He grew up in Manton, graduated from Manton High School in 1946 and has been a resident of Manton since that time. Don was married to the former Arlene McCuaig in Lake City on June 4, 1948.
Don was an avid musician and loved to sing and entertain. He taught guitar since 1948, he worked for Kimbel Construction and he sold Christmas Trees for many years. He played with the Kenny Roberts Band for several years and also with the Highland Gospelaires. He was a faithful member of the Manton Baptist Church and served as a deacon. Don loved to talk and visit. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, going for rides but he was happiest when he was surrounded by his family and friends.
