She also wrote extensively in the mystery genre. She was married twice, the second time to Damon Knight, an influential science fiction editor and critic. She was one of the founders of the Science Fiction Writers of America--its Solstice Award was renamed in her honor in 2016. She was selected for induction into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 2003.
