Adelbert was born on the family farm in Section 9 of Minonk township, the farm being just one and one quarter mile east of Minonk, Illinois. It was on this farm that he grew up, attended the rural Beal school, married and farmed until he moved into town leaving his son to farm. Adelbert married Jessie Rosetta Armstrong on December 13, 1890 in Pontiac, Illinois. When Adelbert and Jessie married, they set up housekeeping on the Jury homestead and remained there raising their family of four boys. Adelbert was known as A.L. or Bert most of the time. He was a school director of Beal school and interested in community affairs. He was a staunch Republican. A.L. and Jessie and their youngest son, Clarence moved from the farm in 1915 into a home that they purchased on South Maple Avenue. A.L. was in the oil business for a few years. He remained actively involved in his farms until the time of his death. For many years, he had a threshing machine and had a small "run" in the neighborhood. At the age of 83, after a lingering illness, Adelbert passed away at his home.
