A. Merle Gonder of Philipsburg passed away April 4 at the Windy Hill Village of the Presbyterian Homes.

He was the son of the late Owen and Cora (Whitman) Gonder and the husband of the late Jane J. (Kephart) Gonder.

He was of Christian faith, a member of the BPO Elks in Bellefonte, was a retired corrections officer from the State Correctional Institution at Rockview, and graduated from the former Osceola Mills High School.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, Mildred Fravel and Marie Herman, and three brothers, Harold, Owen and Ivan Gonder.

He is survived by seven grandchildren, Jerri Raddings, Chris Waxler, Brittany Gonder, Carly Gonder, Mackenzie Gonder, Kelsey Gonder, and Jakob Fulmer; three great grandchildren; daughters Ginger Yound an her husband Al in Orlando, Fla, and Gayle Beveridge and her husband Arthur in Osceola Mills; sons Merle Gonder and his wife Carol in Philipsburg, James Gonder and his wife Sandra in Philipsburg, Jeffrey Gonder and his wife Kimberly of Philipsburg, and Gregory Gonder and his wife Leslie of Black Moshannon; sister Flo Gross of York; and brothers James Gonder of Osceola Mills and Lee Gonder of Bellefonte.

The funeral will be April 7 at 11 a.m. at the Heath Funeral Home in Osceola Mills. Officiating will be the Rev. Frank Linton. Burial will be at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Philipsburg. Visitation will be on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Heath Funeral Home.
