Brother Abram (Abe) Drinks was born in the small town of Cottonwood, Alabama on July 21, 1928. He was the oldest of nine siblings, the son of James Drinks and Ellen Moore.

Abram was educated in the Alabama Public School system and later moved to New Jersey. He married Margaret Emma Shropshire. He worked as a craftsman for C.P. Leek and Sons until he retired. Abram was a lifelong member of the Egg Harbor Golf Association, a new artist competition Judge for the National Association of Radio Announcers and Gospel Music Promoters and received numerous awards at their annual conferences in Atlanta, Georgia. Additionally, he was the East Coast Road Manager for gospel group, the Swanee Quintet of Augusta, Ga. Also, Abram was the first African American to play baseball with the old Egg Harbor baseball team. Abram never met a stranger and travelled the world. His love was for family and his children. He ministered in song for his church and was a dedicated prayer warrior.

Abram Drinks departed this earthly life on February 26, 2018. Preceding him in death are brother, Sgt. Willie Drinks of Willingboro, NJ; brother, Lonnie Drinks of Pleasantville, NJ; sister, Lela Thomas of Cottonwood, Al.; brother, Rev. James Drinks of Pleasantville, NJ; sister, Betty Williams of Ft. Lauderdale Fl.; brother, Edward Drinks of Philadelphia, PA; and sister, Mary Lois Morris of Sunrise, Fl.

He leaves to cherish his memory sister, Lola Beamon of Cottonwood, Al.; sister-in-law, Evangelist Juanita Drinks of Egg Harbor. NJ; children, Leroy (Johnnie) Johnson of Harrisburg, Pa., James Drinks of Palmetto, Ga., Carol Drinks of Riverdale, Ga., Marilyn Braswell (Robert) of Union City, Ga., Abram (Rick) Drinks, Jr. of Palmetto, Ga., Wayne Drinks of Asbury Park, NJ, and Desiree Zachery (Roderick) of Sharpsburg, Ga; a host of grandchildren, greatgrands, great-great grands, nieces and nephews; and special cousin, Deacon Jerry Moore Jr. of Cottonwood, Al.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 3rd from 8:30 – 10:00 AM with the service starting at 10:00 AM at Heavensway Baptist Church 5082 Tremont Ave #B, Egg Harbor Twp. Interment will immediately following at Egg Harbor City Cemetery on Moss Mill Road, Egg Harbor City. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wimberg Funeral Home, 400 Liverpool Ave, Egg Harbor City, NJ.
