AUGUSTA, MAINE - Roger T. Gilbert - age 84, of Eastern Avenue, died March 3, 2018 at Alfond Center for Health, Augusta, after an extended illness. He was born in Augusta, ME on Oct. 25, 1933 the son of Treffle Gilbert and Delima (Arbour) Gilbert.
Roger served honorably in the U S Army during peacetime.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a painter at the Augusta Mental Health Institute for 29 years.
He was a member of St. Michael Parish and Cushnoc Senior Citizens.
Roger was predeceased by his parents, and by a sister, Marie Ange Larochelle.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Joan C. (Whittier) Gilbert of Augusta, ME; two daughters: Karleen Goldhammer and husband Scott of Vassalboro, ME and Jackie Godbout and husband Rick of Hallowell, ME; one son, Raymond Gilbert and wife Patty of Augusta, ME; six grandchildren: Ryan, Alan, Alison, Ashley, Jeremy and Wes; and five great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
