Bonnie Wertz Rogers, 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep January 9, 2018 after a 40-year battle with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Born in Roanoke October 10, 1944 in Roanoke, VA to Raymond Wertz and Mary Isaacs Wertz. Bonnie was a happy child who adored her big sister, Gail.

While attending Warren County High School, she married Robert C. Rogers Jr. and graduated with the WCHS Class of 1963. They moved to Delaware and their adventures would take them to Maryland, England, and back again. They shared their life with several dogs and one child.

Bonnie eventually returned to Virginia, settling next door to her sister Gail in Charlottesville. These were happy years, shared with a succession of pets, including Bonnie's beloved cat Mittens.

Bonnie spent her last four years at Charlottesville Health and Rehab where she found a lasting friendship with roommate Bernice Cochran. Frequent visits from treasured friend James Cox provided happy reminiscences.

Bonnie loved milkshakes. red flowers, and cats of all shapes and sizes.

Her great gifts were her big heart and her ability to connect with others.

Bonnie is survived by her sister, Gail Wertz Wimer; her daughter, Dr. Shannon Rogers; her friend, Jim; and many friends and distant relatives, who were fortunate to know her. We will miss her forever.

The family requests that donations in her memory be made to the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA, 3355 Berkmar Dr., Charlottesville, VA 22901 or the National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163.
