James Leslie Norman, age 85, of Casper, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 24, 2017. He suffered with Lewy Body Dementia. He was born September 7, 1931 in Casper.

He served four years in the United States Navy Submarine Service during the Korean War aboard the USS Medregal #480.

He married Joan Miller Thanksgiving Day November 25, 1954. They have been married 62 years.

Jim served 29 years with the Casper Fire department and retired as a Battalion chief in 1984.

Jim and Joan loved to travel around the United States. One of their favorite places to visit was Estes Park, Colorado. They loved to hike in Rocky Mountain National Park; also they loved to go to Thermopolis once a month and go swimming in the hot springs water at the Star Plunge pool.

Jim and Joan loved to take walks and tried to walk six days a week.

Jim was very active in the various Baptist churches with the youth and also with Child Evangelism. These later years, Jim was very active in gospel singing at various nursing homes which he enjoyed very much. His favorite song was “Jesus Loves Me”. Sometimes at prayer meetings in church or at the nursing homes he would break out in spontaneous singing, “Jesus Loves Me.”

He is survived by his loving wife Joan, two brother-in-laws, Don Knobel and Dave Miller (Loretta Miller) of Casper and sister-in-law Claudine Miller of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a brother.

The memorial service will be held at Mountain View Baptist Church in Mills on June 2nd 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 6 -8 p.m. Bustard’s Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church, Child Evangelism Fellowship, Casper Youth for Christ, Boyd Avenue Baptist Church building fund, Calvary Baptist Christian school, the Gideons, or the United Indian Mission in Arizona.
