MAYOR OF HARDERWIJK, HOLLAND
Jacob Hegeman married Elsgen Cornelisse. Jacob Hegeman was an alderman and also burgomaster (mayor-guardian) of Harderwijk, Holland. He owned a house on on Bruggestraat in Harderwijk, Holland. According to Dobson: He was a member of the St. Jorisgilde (St. George's guild) of Harderwijk in 1553, deacon and alderman of the Holy Sacrament guild in 1555, one of the four trustees of the orphanage in 1555 and 1557, alderman (schepen) in 1561 and magistrate (burgemeester) in 1564.

THE HEGEMAN FAMILY IN THE NETHERLANDS
The Hegeman family is a family originally from Gelderland and in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries an Elburg and Harderwijk patrician - and later regent family that produced various administrators, soldiers and preachers. The lineage goes back to Jan Hegeman, who was gifted with an annual allowance of 50 gold guilders by the Duke of Gelre in 1412 and is therefore mentioned for the first time in the year 1456, a Henric Hegeman is mentioned in the judicial archives of Harderwijk as the tenant of a roundel next to the Sint Nicolaaspoort, later called the Luttekepoort. Jacob Hegeman (1520-1571) is considered the ancestor of today's name bearers. He was a mayor and alderman of Harderwijk. Jacob was the father of Wolter Hegeman (1545-1582), colonel in State service during the Dutch Revolt. A great-grandson of Wolter Hegeman, also named Wolter Hegeman (1635-1703), was appointed drost of the Heerlijkheid Wisch in 1663 , causing a branch of descendants of Jacob Hegeman to settle in the then County of Zutphen ( Oost-Gelre).
Another branch ended up in Amsterdam via Dionijs Hegeman (1624-1678) and Adriaen Hegeman (1625-1672), great-grandsons of Jacob Hegeman, in the first half of the seventeenth century. Adriaen Hegeman emigrated from Amsterdam-to Nieuw Amsterdam ( New York ) in 1652. He is the ancestor of all Hegemans living in America. Adriaen held various administrative positions in what was then Nieuw Amsterdam. The Adrian Hegeman Public School and Hegeman Avenue in present-day Brooklyn are named after him.
Cornelisgen Hegeman, daughter of Jacob Hegeman, inherited in the Elspeter forests and Uddeler Heegde, married Geerlof Jansz. Voeth, mayor of Harderwijk. From this marriage:
