Mrs. Alvina Wells Chase, wife of John S. Chase, died at the family residence, north of the village, June 2, 1901 aged 84 years. Born in Bethany, January 8, 1815, and in her early life was married to George Smead, by whom she had one daughter, Mrs. Fanny G. Smead Tompkins, of LeRoy. She married again in 1860 to John S. Chase, and has since resided in Warsaw. Her husband, now 86 years old, survives, also a step son, Duane E. Chase.
