US Congressman. He graduated from Kinderhook Academy, New York in 1840, was admitted to the bar and began law practice in 1843. In 1859, he was elected as an Anti-Lecompton Democrat to the Thirty-sixth Congress, serving until 1861. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law. He was appointed a judge of the commission of appeals of New York State in 1873 and stayed in position until the expiration of the court by limitation in 1875.
