Mary was the daughter of Captain David Ralph Silver and his first wife, Elizabeth Baker. She was first married to John Madison Hutchins in 1876; they divorced after several years (and two daughters), and Mary then became the second wife to widower Newton Byrd Wheeler. She became stepmother to 11-year old Adam Cornelius Wheeler, Byrd's son with his first wife Amanda Blevins; Amanda had died as a result of childbirth fever. Mary and Byrd had 4 children. She died shortly after the birth of her last child with Byrd, Albert Binns, no doubt of childbirth fever. Although we have searched for years, to date (Feb 2018) no burial has been located for her. [Update 12/2021: still not located. She will have been buried either on the family farmstead in Murchison, Pensacola Twp., the Silver Cemetery in Pensacola, or perhaps the Silver cemetery in Kona.]
