In 1851 engaged in teaching, enlisted 15 Aug. 1862 in the 113th Regt. Ohio Vol. Infantry at outbreak of war. Mustered out at W.D.C. as Captain 14 Jun 1865. Became superintendent in public schools at North Lewisburg, Ohio.
