William Steffen Sr., 82, aged resident of this city, passed away at his home, 1731 S. Fourteenth street, at 10 p.m., Saturday after an illness of seven weeks. Death was due to the infirmaties attending old age.
Mr. Steffen was born in Germany, November 19, 1847, and came to this country in 1887, settling in Sheboygan. He was united in marriage to Mis Henrietta Baum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baum, on June 5, 1874, in Germany. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1924 with their children and friends visiting them at their home in this city.
Mr. Steffen was employed by the Zschetzsche tannery, which later became the Badger State tannery, the Sheboygan Chair company, the Phoenix Chair company and other local factories, retiring twelve years ago.
The deceased is survived by his wife, seven sons, August, Emil, Paul, Ernst and William Jr., of this city; Julius of Fort Harrison, Indiana, and Frank of Racine; one daughter, Mrs. Otto Kunze, Sheboygan; and five brothers, Carl and Herman of this city, Julius of Milwaukee, August of Waukesha, and Fred of Germany.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., from the home of his son, Emil, at 1731 S. Fourteenth street, and at 2 p.m., from the Bethlehem Lutheran church. The Rev. H. H. Wegner, pastor, will officiate, and interment will be made in the Lutheran cemetery.
The deceased leaves many friends and acquaintances in this city. He was widely known and well liked by a large circle of friends.
