Acie William (A.W.) Phillips, 92, of Colorado City went home to the loving arms of his beloved Lord and Savior, on Saturday , February 17, 2018 at Mitchell County Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 20 at Oak Street Baptist Church with Rev. Jackie Brem and Dr. Jerry Shields officiating. Burial will be in Colorado City Cemetery under the care and direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born May 8, 1925 in the Valley View community north of Loraine to Acie and Florrie (Brown)Phillips, A. W. was a life-long resident of Mitchell County. His family moved to Colorado City in 1936, and on January 29, 1947 he married the former Louise Hickson. They were married for 67 years before her death in 2014.

He retired from Cosden Pipeline, a division of Fina Petroleum, in 1987.

A.W. was a positive influence on the lives of many young boys in Colorado City, having coached in the boys youth baseball program of the Pony League for 39 years. The baseball field next to Wolf Stadium is named in his honor.

He was a devoted member of Oak Street Baptist Church and was active in the county historical commission, Wallace Center senior citizens and the Colorado City park board. One of the pavilions at Ruddick Park is named for him. He also loved to feed and keep track of the ducks at Ruddick Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Louise, and son, Randy, and a sister, Louise McMullen.

Survivors include a daughter , Brenda Edwards and husband Joe of Alamogardo, N.M.; five grandchildren, Joey Edwards and Shawn Edwards, both of Alamogardo, Trisha Wall of Buffalo, Okla. , Robin Phillips of McKinney; and Scott Phillips and wife Ashley of Chicago, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Janet Mayo and husband Ray of Colorado City.
