Obituary from Osborn Funeral Home, Shreveport LA:

Miss Kelly Vaughn Gardner was called to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Grace Home after a brief illness. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, February 16, at Osborn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 17 at The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, 939 Jordan St, Shreveport. The Celebrant will be Rev. Peter B. Mangum, and interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.

Ms. Kelly was born on September 15, 1973 in Shreveport and was a 1995 graduate of C. E. Byrd High School. In the first two years of her life, Kelly endured numerous medical problems, leading to her various disabilities. Despite these hurdles, Kelly thrived and became an important member in our family and community. Kelly enjoyed being with people, made lifelong friends, had wonderful neighbors, and helped others learn about living in our society with a disability. She continually broke antiquated barriers, showing how adults with disabilities are an indispensable part of family, friends, and the community at large. Her struggles helped inspire many others, in particular her brother, Jay, dedicating his career to tending to the medical needs of children, and her parents, Jim and Sally, in fighting for Kelly and her peers secure the proper medical and community care they deserve.

Ms. Kelly was preceded in death by her Father, James B. Gardner, Sr., her Paternal Grandparents, Cecil and Lessie Lee Gardner and Maternal Grandparents, Robert and Emma Jane Ivey. Great Aunts Ella and Mildred Hudson were also an important part of Kelly’s life through their loving and caring advocacy.

Kelly is survived by her Mother, Sally Gardner, Brother, Jay Gardner and his wife Kelly, her Nephews, Jacob and Aaron and Niece, Ivey Gardner and Friends, Cindy Murray, Shelia Thomas, Tonya Jackson and Quinn Williams.

Pallbearers will be Kelly’s Cousins, Robert Ivey, Michael Ivey, Patrick C. Ivey, Patrick M. Ivey, Jr., and Uncles, Rob Ivey and Pat Ivey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kelly’s Nephews, Jacob and Aaron Gardner.

Kelly’s Family would like to thank The Arc Caddo-Bossier, Dr. John Pope and Dr. Richard Kamm, Jr. for their years of support and loving care.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to The Arc Caddo-Bossier, Goldman School, 351 Jordan St, Shreveport, LA 71101
