Killed by a Falling Tree
Adam Kantzler, a rancher residing
about two miles west of Priest River, on
the south side of the Pend Oreille, was instantly killed last Thursday afternoon
by a falling tree. He was engaged, with
the assistance of a son, in clearing land.
They had cut down a small dead cedar
about six inches in diameter, which
lodged in another tree. In attempting
to work it loose the cedar broke and one
end fell, striking Kantzler on the head
and crushing him against a big stump.
His forehead was crushed in and his
right arm broken, death resulting instantly.
The remains were brought to town
that evening to the Harding undertaking
parlors and prepared for burial. On
Saturday the body was shipped to Ritzville
Wa. for interment.
Kantzler was 61 years old and had
been a resident of this section since last
spring, when he and four other parties
from the vicinity of Ritzville purchased
an 80-acre tract and started to prepare
it for cultivation. He had been married
twice, bv his first wife having eight
children, the youngest of whom, 11
years old, was assisting his father at the
time of the accident. The other children
are all grown and do not reside at
home. He was married a second time
last December, his second wife and thno
small children by her former marriage
surviving him
