"He was born Oct. 27, 1912 in Winneconne, Wis., a son of Arthur and Anna Runge Drews.
"On May 17, 1975 in Kansas City, Mo. he married Vera Haeffner Scott, who survives of the home. He joined the Wisconsin National Guard, Company H 127th Infantry as a private in Novemeber 1934. He was mobilized for active duty October 1940, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. On July 7, 1947, he was integrated into the Regular Army in Calvary as a First Lieutenant and retired at the rank of Colonel Feb. 1, 1968. Included in his numerous awards and decorations are the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
"He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Camdenton, where he served on the Church Consul (sic), was a past president of Lake Valley Country Club, Camdenton Rotary Club, Optimist Club in Camdenton, a member of the Retired Officers Association, Fort Leonard Wood chapter and a member of the Elks Lodge of Camdenton.
"Survivors include: his wife, Vera of the home; two brothers, Wilbert Drews and his wife Esther of Fremont, Wis. and Clarence Drews of Madison, Wis.; and one sister-in-law, Edith Drews of Winneconne, Wis.
"In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Drews.
"Funeral services were held Monday, July 12, 1999 at the Hedges Funeral Home in Camdenton, with Rev. John Davis officiating.
"Graveside services will be today at 1:30 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
"In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Our Savior Lutheran Church of Camdenton or the charity of your choice.
"Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home of Camdenton."
