Genevieve Ray "Mama Bee" Lawrence, 91, was born to the late Theodore Ray, Sr. and Lottie Graves Ray in Gulfport, MS. She departed this life after a brief illness Monday, February 8, 2016 in Gulfport, MS. Genevieve was a member of Thirty-Third Avenue class of 1942, Handsboro Homemakers Club and First Missionary Baptist Church Handboro where she was active in the Choir, Sunday School ad Mission. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Prentiss Lawrence, Sr., a son, J.P. Lawrence, Jr.; one brother, Theodore Ray, Jr.; three sisters, Loretta Caldwell, Almanette Daniels and Della Moore and two grandchildren, Ronald Lawernce, II and Geoffrey Lawrence. She is survived and leaves to cherish her memory a son, Ronald (Valerie) Lawrence of Pittsburg, PA; two daughters, Gwendolyn (Bobby Joe) Jones of Gulfport, MS and Arna (Joe) Martin of Schertz, TX; three brothers, Barney Ray and Edward Jacobs of Gulfport, MS and Gerald Jacobs of Dayton, OH; a sister, Melinda Hanks of D'lberville, MS; four granddaughters, Michele (Donovan) Watts of San Antonio, TX, Stacey (Brian)Spillers of Marietta, GA, Jamie Lawrence of Lauderhill, FL and Dr. Barby (Tommy) Simmons of McDonough, GA; two grandsons, Omar Lawrence of Petersburg, PA and Keith Lawrence of San Francisco, CA; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Genevieve Ray Lawrence Scholarship Fund, c/o First Missionary Baptist Church Handsboro, 1100 East Pass Road, Gulfport, MS 39507. Service will be Tuesday, February16, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church Handsboro with visitation 10-11 a.m. Arrangements are entrusted to J. T. Hall Funeral Home, Inc. of Gulfport, MS.
