Shelton J. Hobbs of Smithfield N.C. died Sunday 26 December. He was a faithful man who helped others. Mr. Hobbs worked with the N.C. Department for Transportation for 36 years, retiring as Johnston County Bridge Maintenance Supervisor. He farmed the land and planted an enormous vegetable and flower garden each summer. He shared his harvest with everyone. He was the son of the late Walter and Annie Hobbs of Smithfield.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane J. Hobbs; three sons and their families: Joseph S. Hobbs and Tina S. Hobbs of Smithfield; Mark S. Hobbs and Gracelyn B. Hobbs of Smithfield, and Harold L. Hobbs and Debra H. Hobbs of Selma; four grandchildren, Jessica H. Davis and husband, Jeremy Davis of Greenville, N.C. M. Stevens Hobbs and wife, Shannon of Albertson, N.C., McKenzie L. Hobbs and Anna Kate Hobbs of Smithfield; one step-grandson, Preston Powlas of Benson; one great grand daughter, Autumn G. Hobbs of Albertson. Three siblings survive: Thelma H. Allen of Four Oaks, Neta H. Hodges of Cockeysville, M.D. and C. Dennis Hobbs of Raleigh.
Friends and family will gather at the home. Visitation is 29 Dec from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Underwood Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Hopewell FWB Church of Smithfield on 30 Dec at 11am. Burial will follow at Hills of the Neuse Cemetery.
