She was born April 4, 1925 in Rockingham County, to the late William Ashby and Delphia Bazzle Martz.
Fern worked at Aileen Company. She was a member of Mtn. Valley United Methodist Church, and the Ladies Aide Society at the church.
On March 31, 1945 she married Charles Kenneth Emerson, who preceded her in death November 13, 1998.
Surviving are three sons, Kenny Emerson and wife Shirley of Harrisonburg, Roger Emerson and wife Lois of Harrisonburg, Eddie Emerson and wife Jackie of Broadway; two daughters, Peggy Yasem and husband Robert of Glen Burnie, MD, Brenda Reedy and husband David of Linville; one sister, Gladys Mongold of New Market; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.
Pastors Janet Davis, Archie Webster, and Jamie Baker will conduct a funeral service 2 PM Sunday at Mtn. Valley United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Mtn. Valley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 – 7 PM at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
