On February 26, 1946, in Kansas City, KS, she was united in marriage to Daniel Lee Johnson, Sr., who preceded her in death on May 19, 2004.
Erma attended grade and high school in Fortuna. She graduated from Fortuna High School in 1944, the last graduating class at the school. She was the last survivor of all students who graduated from Fortuna High School.
Erma was a school teacher in many communities including Clarksburg, Gravois Mills, Stover, California and most recently, Versailles. She was the remedial reading teacher in Versailles for many years, retiring after thirty-four years of teaching. Following her retirement, she volunteered at the Tipton Elementary School in the remedial reading program for more than ten years.
Erma enjoyed spending her time gardening, canning, caring for her cats, playing the piano and singing. She baked and decorated cakes, wrote poetry for many special occasions and was known for her beautiful whistle.
She was a member of the Fortuna United Methodist Church, Missouri State Teachers Association and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association.
Erma is survived by a son and three daughters, eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Lee Johnson, Jr.; brothers, John Carter and Lloyd Carter, and sisters, Rosa Mae Ball, Mary Lou Lawson and Edna Adeline Carter.
