Elizabeth "Betsy" Hughes, daughter of Newlin Hughes and Polly Ann Hyde of North Carolina. Marriage about 1842 in NC. to Charles E. Davenport they moved to Union Co., Georgia before 1850, by 1860 in Towns Georgia. They had eight children. Charles fought in the civil war. Confederate.
Captured, Sept. 9, 1863, Prisoner of war, Camp Douglas, Chicago, Ill. died in camp Nov. 1863 . Was a private in Co., A, 62 infantry NC... listed in Oak Wood's Cem.. I don't think she drew a pension.

Along with Charles Davenport other family members also joined, Joseph M. Hughes and Joseph Fore.

Charles died in Nov. 1863 leaving wife Elizabeth with young family to care for. It seems that Elizabeth died between 1864 and 1870 as two youngest children were living with her parents in 1870 in Shooting Creek,Clay Co., Nc. and two more living with her sister Sarah A. Fore. Don't know where she is buried, possibly in Clay Co., NC.

Her son John A. Davenport who married Nancy Norton were all living in Hiawasse, Towns, Ga. They are buried in the Burch Cem. There are many records of unknown Davenports and Nortons buried there in the same area.
Elizabeth is probably one of them buried in the family plot
