Merle was born in Hillsboro, Hill Co, TX to Oscar Aquilla "Quill" and Lottie May Parsons Pierce. Her mother is buried in Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. She shares a stone with Henry Darwin "Andy" Anderson who she married on 17 January 1941. Their son, Richard Quill "Rick" Anderson, is also buried beside them. Penny was residing in Elkhart at the time of her death at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. She was survived by her husband; sons, Dwight Darwin Anderson of Elkhart, James H. Anderson of Livingston, Ronnie O'Neal Anderson of LaPorte, Richard Quill "Rick" Anderson of Elkhart; sisters, Evelyn Frost of Hillsboro and Gladys Hamilton of Palm Springs, CA; a brother, L. G. "Pete" Pierce of Martin; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her obituary was published in the Palestine Herald-Press, Sunday, 27 January 1991.∼
