Mary "Ann" Smith, 85, of Washington, IN, went to her Heavenly Home on June 28, 2017 from her residence. She was born on July 12, 1931 to Elton L. and Mary (Heald) Berck in Osceola, NE. She was an Osceola High School graduate, an Indiana State University graduate, and completed 2 Masters Degree at Oakland City University for Elementary Education and at Indiana University for Art Education. On December 24, 1952, Ann married the love of her life, Richard "Dick" H. Smith. Ann was a Navy Veteran. She worked as an Art Teacher at Barr Reeve High School teaching 1st through 12th grade for 25 years. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church and a member of the Washington Country Club. Ann was an avid golfer, she loved to work in her flower garden, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, and she always had a dog, because she loved her pets so much.
Ann is survived by her husband Richard "Dick" H. Smith; children Linda Barnard (Ray), Denise Schwander, Nancy Cornelius (Bill), and Mike Smith (Susan); 13 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elton and Mary (Heald) Berck; and her siblings.
The funeral service for Ann will take place on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 10am at Gill Funeral Home, 308 E. Walnut Street, Washington, IN 47501 with Rev. Kenneth Wells officiating. Friends may call on Friday, June 30, 2017 from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Sugarland Memory Gardens.
