Lola Fields was born November 4, 1946 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to Sandy Fish and Eliza Beaver and went home to her Lord on January 26, 2018 at the age of 71. Lola was raised in Wetumka. She married her husband, Billy Fields on February 5, 1965, and to their union were born three children. Lola earned her Bachelor's degree and spent many of her years as a teacher, primarily teaching special education to high school students in Byng and Wetumka. Indeed, teaching had been a life-long calling for Lola: she began at the age of twelve when she taught a class at Falls Creek. In addition to serving as a teacher, Lola also served her native people. She was full blood Muscogee (Creek) and she read, wrote, and spoke her language fluently. She served on the Muscogee (Creek) National Council for which, she would later receive an award in recognition of her service. Most importantly, Lola was active in her church and served her Lord in many capacities. From mission work, bus ministry, teaching Sunday School, program and activity director and Sunday School Treasurer. She was a member of the Wetumka Indian Baptist Church. Lola loved birds, especially redbirds. She kept feeders so she could watch them from her living room window. She enjoyed her time working in her garden, tending to her flower beds. Lola was also an avid Thunder basketball fan and any sport that her children, grandchildren and great children were participating in. Lola is preceded in death by her parents and by her daughter-in-law, Leah. Funeral services for Lola Fields will be held on Monday, January 29 at 10:00am at the Wetumka Indian Baptist Church. Rev. Darrel Coachman will officiate. Tracey Bell, Quinn Bell, Micah Hill, Billy Fields, Jr., Jordan Marshall, and Peyton Beaver will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow afterward at the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Baptist Church Cemetery.
