Max Eugene Bowers, 82 of La Grande OR, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 at Grande Ronde Hospital. Max was born April 17, 1935 in Stryker to Lawrence and Stella (Beck) Bowers. Max resided in Bryan, West Unity, Bronson, FL, and La Grande, OR. He graduated from West Unity High School. He served our country while in the United States Army from 1957-1959. Max married Joan Roberts on February 19, 1959. He was employed with Spangler Candy Company, Hilltop School District, Levy County Florida, and Union Baker ESD. He enjoyed watching grandkids’ activities, especially sports. He truly loved his grandkids and traveling by car to see new places.

He is survived by his sons, Bruce Bowers (Sylvia) of Baker City, OR, Brian Bowers (Lisa) of Saskatoon, Canada, and Barry (Heidi) of Summerville, OR; sister, Claudine Schmucker (Gerald) of Stryker; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence and Stella; wife, Joan Bowers; and brother, Wayne Bowers.

Friends may call at Short Funeral Home in Archbold from 4-8 PM on Tuesday. A Graveside Service will be held at Lockport Cemetery at 11 AM on Wednesday.
