Stephenson, Donald D., 83, retired deputy sheriff, died Jan. 22. Services 10 a.m. Friday, Del City First Church of the Nazarene (Ford, Midwest City).

Donald Dean Stephenson (Don) was born in Oklahoma City, OK on August 19, 1934 to Deamy (Witt) and Luther Sherman Stephenson. He is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Lloyd, Alvin, Glenn, Merle and Bobby Joe; and sisters, Mari Lee and Fern. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Hornet during the Korean War.
On December 8, 1956 he married Beulah Irene (Pat) Stover and a 59 year old love affair and legacy began. He is predeceased by wife, Pat, who died on February 3, 2016. He is survived by his children: Donna and James Reynolds of Del City, Diane and Michael Davis of Del City, Donald and Julie Stephenson of Ventura, California, and Michael and Judy McGinn of Bedford, Texas. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; several sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; and countless lifelong friends.
Don worked for Safeway Bakery for several years. In 1980 he began his career with the OK County Sheriff's Office, serving in numerous roles. He was instrumental in developing the tax collection procedures for collecting past due business city taxes. He was standing downtown at 9:02 a.m. on April 19, 1995 when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was bombed. Don sustained hearing loss due to the bomb blast as well as fertilizer burn on his face, head, and hands. He immediately went to the building site and began blocking off streets to allow emergency vehicle entrance. Don served the majority of his career in the Civil Division and retired as a Lieutenant in January, 2010.
He was a graduate of Rose State College and had a Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Don was a humble man. He had many interests but most important was his relationship with Christ. He was a servant of Christ; a kind and giving man. He was a HAM radio operator for many years. He participated in many call-in NETS, monthly luncheons and HAM Fests. He was a Keystone Cop as well as a Shriner and a Mason. He attended the annual Shriner Circus for years as well as community events.
Services will be Friday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m. at the Del City Nazarene Church, 4701 SE 26th (SE 26th and Vickie) with burial to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N. Midwest Blvd in Oklahoma City.
There will be a family hour/viewing on Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 4pm-8pm at Ford Funeral Service's chapel, 305 S. Sooner Road in Midwest City.
