Alice Leatha Carpenter, daughter of Sylvester Jesse Carepnter & Leatha Jane Crockett
She was one of nine children that Sylvester & Leatha Carpenter had. All but one son survived to out live his parents. Four children were lost in infancy. Alice & Tressa died from complications of childbirth. Ellen may have died of complications from childbirth as well, but there is no proof.

Her siblings were Ellen Elizabeth Carpenter Byers, a brother B. Thomas Carpenter who died very young, Charles Henry Carpenter, Tressa M. Carpenter Cromer and four other unknown siblings that died very young or in infancy.

She married James Marion Armistead on December 11, 1888 in Stanton, Missouri @ Carpenter's resident by Peter C. Thurmond Justice of the Peace.

Alice was the mother of Roy Marion Armistead, Mary Ellen Armistead Randleman, Meta Alice Armistead Dixon, Charles Richard Armistead , Ollie Leatha Armistead Heady and Odist M. Armistead Trentman
When she died in September 1906 she left Roy 16 1/2, Mary 15, Meta 12 1/2, Charles 10 1/2, Ollie 7 1/2 and Odist 3 1/2 years old.

Tragically killed in a wagon accident when the horses were spooked by lightening & thunderstorm. She was carrying twins at the time, and died from complications of the accident and pregnancy. Since she was a mid-wife in the community of Stanton, she knew that she was dying.

My grandfather was only ten 1/2 years old when she died. It had a profound effect on the rest of his life.
