Major League Baseball Player. He played the catcher position for Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, and Cincinnati Reds from 1965 to 1974. Born Robert Wilbur Burton, he signed with the San Francisco Giants out of high school and played in the minors until being called up by the main club in September of 1965. He played for the Giants for four and a half years before he was traded to the San Diego Padres in December of 1969. He went on to play for the Padres for three seasons before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 1972. He enjoyed his best season with the Padres in 1971 when he battled .250 with five homers and 23 RBIs. He was a member of the Reds for just one season before going back to San Diego for the 1974 season. His career batting statistics included a .226 batting average with 9 home runs and 66 RBI's in 393 games played. He retired from baseball after the 1974 season and later went into the insurance business. He passed away after a long battle with dementia.
