Barbara Wamp Cope, 84 years old and a child of God, passed through the gates of heaven on Friday, January 19, 2018. She was born and raised in Cullman, Alabama along with three sisters and one brother. Her father, Louis Wamp, was a gifted carpenter and farmer. Her mother, Lois Aldredge Wamp, was a passionate homemaker and oversaw the operation of the family business, Wamp's Skateland, a skating rink that Louis Wamp constructed near the family home.
Barbara graduated from Auburn University where she met George Cope. They were married in December of 1954 and soon moved to Weirsdale, Florida where they both accepted teaching positions at the newly constructed Lake Weir High School. After raising her children, she worked as a rural route mail carrier for the Belleview Post Office.
Barbara was widely known to be a passionate Christian, devoted wife and mother, loyal friend to many, robust conversationalist, kitchen magician, prolific reader, creative seamstress, green thumb gardener, energetic organizer, and LOVED PLAYING GAMES of any sort. Her selfless attitude and thankful perspective touched many lives with her special brand of love and encouragement. Her crowning achievement is her acceptance into heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Barbara is survived by her husband, George Cope; son, David (Laurie) Cope of Ocala; daughters, Kelly (Mark) Petrash of Denver, Robin (David) Knupp of Asheville, and Landra (Eric) Tedstrom of Denver; and nine grandchildren, Kenan, Carson, and Davis Petrash; Bowen, Kyla, Brenna, and Cooper Tedstrom, and Dalton and Marquesa Cope.
A funeral service and celebration of life will be held next Friday, February 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM at North Lake Presbyterian Church located at 975 Rolling Acres Road, Lady Lake, Florida.
