Joseph M. Kellogg Dead
News has been received of the death Sunday on Lawrence, of Joseph M. Kellogg, 78, former chairman of the K.U. architectural department and former Emporian, son of the late Lyman B. Kellogg, first president of the old Kansas State Normal School. Funeral services were held this afternoon. He was a professor at K.U. for 35 years and a scholarship in architecture is offered at the University in his name. He retired in 1956.
Joe Kellogg was born Sept. 26th, 1885, in Emporia and attended grade and high school here. He graduated from Cornell University in 1909 and received a master of architecture degree there in 1912. Professor Kellogg was a member of the American Institute of Architects, Kansas Society of Architects, and Phi Gama Delta social fraternity. In 1961 he held an exhibition of original water colors at K.U. He is survived by a nephew, L. Beacher Kellogg, Palo Alto, Calif.
Mr. Kellogg's brother was the late Vernon Kellogg, who also grew up in Emporia and who went on to become a well-known biologist at Leland Stanford. As a friend of former Pres. Herbert Hoover, Vernon Kellogg was his assistant in the work of Belgian Relief during and after the World War I. He was the author of several well-known books in his scientific field.
