Devoted wife to Michael (married 40 years), mother to 3 daughters and 2 sons, grandmother. Native of Lifford, Co. Donegal, resident of Strabane, Co. Tyrone. A retired librarian and former head of Strabane Library, she was known as a gentle, kind and friendly person, well-liked throughout Strabane. She loved her family deeply and was proud of the many accomplishments of her children. She was a devout Catholic.

Mrs. Herron was kidnapped on 11 December 2003 whilst walking home from mass. Her body was found buried near Sion Mills on 5 April 2004. Her killer, a 23-years-old Sion Mills man, a repeat offender, was convicted a few days later and was given the first life sentence ever passed down in Northern Ireland. The crime instigated a campaign to abolish the 50% remission for serious sex offenders, as her killer had been released from prison just 4 months previous after serving only half of a sentence received after a conviction for rape.

Requiem Mass was held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Strabane on 12 April 2004, with burial at Murlog Cemetery, Lifford, Co. Donegal.
