Chef. Awarded Chef of the Century by the Culinary Institute of America, he is considered by many to be the most influential French chef of his era. He founded the Bocuse d'Or (also known as the World Cooking Contest), one of the first coooking competitions to be done before a live audience, in 1987. His main restaurant in his home town of Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or, France, L'Auberge du Pont de Collonges, has held a Michelin three star rating since 1965. He also founded the French restaurant in Epcot Center at Disney World in 1982. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre in 1945 for his military service with Free French forces during World War II, the Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 1961 and was named a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor in 1975, an Officer of that order in 1987 and a Commander of that order in 2004. He was also awarded the National Order of Merit in 1993.
