Iola was born February 11, 1921 in Rockdale to Sylas C. and Ruby May (Henry) Christian. She married Alexander Howard Avrett on January 12, 1941 in Rockdale. Iola worked for a steel company in Philadelphia during WWII, as a secretary for the State of Texas in Austin, then worked as a cashier with Piggly Wiggly for over 20 years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Rockdale where she played the organ for many years. Iola enjoyed knitting and spending time and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
