John A. Hunting, age 91, longtime Grandview, WA resident passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in Oak Harbor, WA. John was born on August 11, 1926 in Port Angeles, WA the son of Charlotte (Kingman) and Ernest Alvin Hunting. John received his education in Port Angeles, WA and later years in Kennewick, WA. For a few years John worked as a farm laborer, before served in the United States Army from 1944-1946, following his military duty John went to Perry Trade School in Yakima, WA. On August 5, 1951 John married Lois Olive Ruffin in Walla Walla, WA. John began his working career working for John Kingman in Sunnyside, WA and later for Trimble Monarch Service Station. He later owned and operated John’s Super Shell in Grandview, WA for five years. For a short period John and Lois moved to Yakima, WA where John worked for Turner Auto Parts. They returned to Sunnyside, WA and for the next seventeen years John worked for Henry Callison at Broadview Farming CO., which later became Favorland Industries. John completed his working career as a Transportation Supervisor for the Grandview School District. He was a former member, Sunday School Teacher and Trustee of the First Baptist Church in Grandview, WA. He also belonged to Bridge Christian Fellowship in Oak Harbor,WA. John enjoyed working with wood, golfing and traveling back to Minnesota and Georgia to pick-up school buses for the Grandview School District. John was all about sharing his faith in Jesus Christ. He was an active member of his local church in Grandview and Oak Harbor. Over the last three years, John lived at Harbor Towers in Oak Harbor, Washington, where he formed wonderful relationships with residents and staff alike.

John is survived by three sons, Michael Hunting (Anita) of Oak Harbor, WA. Larry Ruffin (Bernardita) of the Tri-Cities, WA and Dan Ruffin (Charlotte) of Grand Lakes, CO. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and one sister Marian Gillock of Florence OR. John is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois Olive Hunting in 2011, sister Emily McEntyre and brother Richard Hunting.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service to start at 1:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, Grandview, WA. Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery.
