On June 6, 1840 Isaac Atkinson son of a farmer Thomas Atkinson, married Mary Ann Putnam in Paddington, Kensington, London, England. She is the daughter of Job and Mary (Hancock) Putnam. (Job Putnam was a sawyer.)

In 1841 Isaac was a Platelayer on the Rail Road in England. By 1845 he was a Conductor on the London and Blackwall Railway in London England.

At the age of 42, Isaac arrived on the Ship Delta in New York on Aug 24, 1848, with his young family. Isaac Atkinson age 42. Mary-Ann wife, age 37. Mary-Ann daughter , age 7. Matilda daughter, age 5.

September 20, 1850 • Syracuse Ward 4, Onondaga, New York census.

September 25, 1861 in Elgin, Illinois. Isaac enlisted as a "Union Soldier" in the 52nd Illinois Infantry, Company G as a private. His muster date was November 19, 1861.

Isaac applied for Military pension #3574609; Isaac served eight months, and then, owing to a wound, returned home for a short time, but upon his return to the army he was discharged, as his health had failed. He passed shortly thereafter on April 15, 1864 in Rutland, Kane County, Illinois.

After Isaac's death, his widow Mary Atkinson, applied Widow's pension application #9336908. He was buried at the Udina Cemetery, row 13, grave 10. His headstone reads: ATKINSON, ISAAC CIVIL WAR Company A, Regiment 52, Illinois Inf.
