Jeannette "Babs" Anderson, 64, of Las Vegas, passed away January 7, 2018. Jeannette was born June 1, 1953, to Kenneth Domingo Anderson and Geneva Jake Anderson. Jeannette was an enrolled member of the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe and a descendent of the Indian Peaks Band of the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah. Jeannette grew up in Cedar City, Utah, and was one of six children. Her family later moved from Cedar City to the Las Vegas Indian Colony. She was a graduate from Rancho High School in 1971.

Jeannette was married to the late Martin Mahone and had twin daughters, Marcia Mahone and Janae Mahone. Jeannette opened her home and raised son, Everson Nakai.

Jeannette was very passionate about her Paiute culture and language. She wanted her grandchildren to learn their traditional ways. She was very active in the Las Vegas Paiute Language Program.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Domingo Anderson and Geneva Jake Anderson; and her sister, Geneal Anderson. Survivors include her brothers and sister, Curtis (Darlene) Anderson, Vincent (Melba) Anderson, Kenny (Susan) Anderson, Kadie Anderson and Ken Curtis Anderson, all of Las Vegas; daughters, Marcia Mahone and Janae Mahone, both of Las Vegas; grandsons, Gabriel Brownotter and Mathew Platero of Las Vegas; granddaughters, Sadie Brownotter, Bo DuBray, Martina DuBray and Danae DuBray, all of Las Vegas; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Viewing and memorial service will be 1-3 p.m. Thursday, January 11, at the Las Vegas Paiute Colony Multipurpose Building, 1316 Sackett St. Jeannette requested to be returned home to Cedar City, Utah for burial. Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, January 12, the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah Gym, 440 N. Paiute Drive in Cedar City, Utah. A traditional sing will follow with dinner at 5 p.m. and the sing to follow. Burial will be Saturday, January 13, at Cedar City Cemetery, following the traditional sing under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
