. She was born December 22, 1954 in Wytheville, VA, daughter of the late George Wythe Albert and Noma Elaine Akers Albert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis “Denny” Porter.
Donna was a loving mother, “Nana”, sister and friend. She loved being a member of Legacy Church for the past 26 years. She was very active in her prayer and Bible study group and was especially grateful to Miss Shirley for being her prayer warrior.
One of her greatest joys in life was her grandchildren. Aiden and Grant were the apple of her eye and one of the greatest loves of her life. Donna was a strong woman. Even though she faced many challenges, by faith, she always kept going. Her spiritual relationship with God was evident by her willingness to witness or minister to others. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Donna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Davina Porter Gunther and Sean of Christiansburg, VA; two grandchildren, Aiden Gunther and Grant Gunther; brother and sister-in-law, George Michael “Mike” and Judy Albert of Wytheville; aunt, Lucille Bourne of Wytheville; sister-in-law, Carolyn Porter of Wytheville; two nephews, Mike Porter of Speedwell, VA and Keith Porter of Greenville, SC; best friend, Carol Rush of Winston Salem, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Legacy Church with Pastor Brett McCleary officiating. Interment will follow in West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the M.S. Foundation or Legacy Church.
